What is Spermidine and 3HCL?

Recent scientific advancements in the landscape of health and wellness are literally a lifesaver who are constantly striving by leaps and bounds to be aware of humankind and their biological relationship with such natural components that have always been a part of life but not a prominent one. Spermidine is one such remarkable innovation about which little has been known till today. It is present naturally in many foods and health-friendly artificial forms, richly extracted from organic sources.

The discovery of spermidine is one of the most extraordinary incidents in the world of scientific explorations. The polyamines, spermidine, and spermine were first brought to light in 1678 by Antonie van Leeuwenhoek while examining a sample of human semen. Within a short time, its rich presence was also witnessed, specifically in human sperm.

Spermidine is a polyamine, a class of compounds that play diverse roles in cell growth and function. Over the years, research has uncovered its presence in various organisms, including bacteria, plants, and animals, and its role in a massive array of cellular processes.

In addition, the supplemental form of spermidine is also manufactured by a great many pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industries. It is a naturally occurring aliphatic polyamine – consisting of two or more amino groups in its chemical structure.

Spermidine is widely encountered in the ribosomes (cellular structures responsible for making proteins) and living tissues to carry out a diversified range of cellular processes. It has gained interest in recent years due to its potential anti-aging and autophagy-inducing properties. Autophagy is the body's way of cleaning out damaged cells in order to regenerate newer, healthier cells.

The "3HCl" refers to a trihydrochloride salt form of spermidine. The addition of hydrochloride (HCl) is common in pharmaceuticals and laboratory compounds to improve solubility or stability. In this case, "3HCl" would suggest that there are three molecules of hydrochloride for every molecule of spermidine.

The majority of extracted spermidine comes from China and is used by most of the supplement companies in the U.S. Unfortunately much of the following is true for most of the resveratrol supplement products sold today also.

The National Library of Medicine has stated that there is Fusarium Toxins in Chinese Wheat since the 1980s.

Also, the way it is extracted causes concerns for biochemists and the poor regulations in many areas of Asia.

The safety of Chinese wheat, as with wheat from any other country, depends on various factors such as agricultural practices, environmental conditions, storage conditions, and processing methods. Here are some considerations when evaluating the safety of Chinese wheat:

  1. Pesticides and Herbicides: The use of certain chemicals in agriculture varies by country. It's essential to check whether the wheat has been grown using safe levels of pesticides and herbicides, as per international standards.

Similar to any other naturally occurring nutritious component in human bodies, the levels of spermidine also start decreasing with age, thereby necessitating the need to incorporate your diet and wellness regime with spermidine supplementation to prevent or delay age-related diseases. The term "autophagy" is derived from the Greek words "auto" (self) and "phagein" (to eat), effectively meaning "self-eating."     5. Degradation: Inside the autolysosome, the cellular waste is degraded into its basic components like amino acids, fatty acids, and sugars. These components can be recycled by the cell to generate energy or build new cellular components.

    6. Release of Recycled Components: The degraded and recycled materials are released back into the cytoplasm for reuse by the cell.

    3 WAYS TO SPOT A FAKE

    It's regrettable, but the surest way to verify the authenticity of a dietary supplement is by getting it tested yourself, even though it can be costly.

    Major online retailers like Amazon, Walmart, and iHerb can't always be counted on to filter out subpar products. Many supplement companies resort to using counterfeit test reports, reviews, and GMP certifications to market their questionable items. Numerous supplement review websites that appear in Google searches do not conduct thorough investigations into the products they endorse. These sites primarily profit from referral commissions, and their genuine concern for consumers receiving low-quality or potentially harmful supplements is questionable, despite their claims otherwise.

    There are also free methods you can use to independently research dietary supplement companies.

    We will explain what the following free tools will help you discover from just a simple review of a products label.

    1. UPC code lookup - If your supplement bottle has a UPC code just go to GS1 and scroll down and select GTIN (which is the official name for a UPC code) and type the full number into the search box.  Once you click search it will only take seconds for this government database to retrieve the company's information. It may say the UPC code is not valid which means it is not a real UPC code.

    Also, if the company name comes up and does not match the company you are looking at it may have been copied and put on the bottle without permission. You should avoid this company.

    One can also look up the company name if you cannot find a UPC code or the company does not show it on their site. If the company does not have any UPC codes associated with their company name then they do not use UPC codes.

    2. FDA supplement label regulations - Look at the right side of your supplement bottle were the 'Supplement Facts' are located. This label should have the correct name of the active ingredient, dose, dosage amount, and the complete address of the company selling or having 'manufactured for' in this area.     If a company's label isn't in line with FDA regulations, it suggests they aren't adhering to certified GMP standards, as a genuine GMP would prevent bottles from being mislabeled or lacking essential information. Again, you probably should not use this company's products.

    The example above shows spermidine correctly. The certified GMP would receive the bulk compound with the proper COA (certificate of analysis) which would state which type of spermidine was being provided. If just spermidine was listed it would be wrong if the GMP received 3HCL and the GMP would not complete manufacturing.

    3. GMP Company lookup link - Almost no companies post their GMP certificate, which has the name of the FDA certified GMP company. If you have the GMP name you can just type it into the database search at this site: FDA Database. This will show you when the company was first started, how many times they have been inspected, and if they have any violations.

    If your supplement company does not post this information call or email them and request it. If they do not provide this or say it is confidential be very cautious. Any legitimate company would be happy and proud to provide this to their customers.

    WHY IS GMP CERTIFICATION CRITICAL?

    GMP stands for "Good Manufacturing Practice." A certified GMP refers to a system for ensuring that products are consistently produced and controlled according to quality standards. When a facility is "certified GMP," it means the facility has been inspected and found to adhere to the GMP standards set by regulatory authorities.

    The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) enforces GMP regulations for food, drug, and medical device manufacturers. If a company claims their products are produced in a "GMP certified" or "GMP compliant" facility, it means that their manufacturing processes have been audited and meet the stringent standards set by the respective regulatory authority.
